After you run a penalty calculation, the Penalty Calculator shows a comparison view: every lender and product, ranked by what's best for your client.
The Best Option Card
At the top of the comparison view, a Best Option card highlights the strongest option across all lenders and products:
- The lender and term.
- The rate.
- The net savings if the client moves.
This is the headline number you'd lead with in a client conversation.
The Lender Comparison Table
Below the best option, a full table shows every lender's offering with these metrics for each:
- Rate - the best rate available from that lender for the term.
- Effective Penalty - using the lender-specific math you've already calculated for the client's current lender.
- New Payment - what the monthly payment would be at the new rate.
- Net Savings - the headline number per row.
You can sort the table by any column.
Net Savings vs Interest Savings vs Payment Savings
Three different "savings" metrics - they tell you different things:
- Net Savings - total monthly savings over the term, after the penalty is paid. This is the bottom-line number.
- Interest Savings - total interest the client would save over the new term. Useful for long-game framing.
- Payment Savings - the difference in monthly payment. Useful for cashflow framing.
All three are visible per row. Lead with whichever the client cares most about.
Balance Difference
If the new mortgage rolls in the penalty (financed into mortgage), the new balance will be higher than the old balance. The Balance Difference column shows this - useful for explaining that the savings come from the rate drop even though the balance went up.
Financed Vs Out-Of-Pocket Penalty
A toggle at the top of the comparison view lets you switch between:
- Financed into mortgage - penalty rolled into the new mortgage. New balance is higher, payments may stay similar.
- Paid out of pocket - client writes a cheque for the penalty. New balance is the same as the old, payments drop more.
Most clients pick financed because they don't have the cash. Toggle to see the math both ways.
